In the front parlor of Wilmer McLean’s home Confederate General, Robert E. Lee, surrendered his army to Union General, Ulysses S. Grant. This marked the end of the Civil War. A few days before this Lee abandoned Richmond and Petersburg in hopes of meeting up with more Confederate soldiers and resume fighting.
